In the Spotlight: Becki Allen

This week, the Dolley Madison Project features Becki Allen, a candidate for North Carolina’s House District 36. Here are her answers to our candidate questionnaire:

Q: Can you tell us a bit about your background?

Becki:

I grew up in the Chicago suburbs. Both of my parents were teachers and from an early age, they instilled in me and two my sisters a great respect for education, a strong sense of responsibility, and a life of service. After high school, I went to North Park University, which is a small Swedish Covenant college on the north side of Chicago, where I met and married my husband while completing my studies. I graduated with a BA in Biblical and Theological studies and immediately began work in the non-profit sector. I worked in a few non-profits in Chicago, supporting them in the administrative office and fundraising for their missions of walking alongside children, women, and families in crisis. Eventually, I was able to stay home with my three children and volunteer in their school, as well as at my church and in my community.

Q: What office are you running for?

Becki:

I'm running for the NC House District 36.

Q: Why are you running for office?

Becki:

I am running for office because in 2020, I decided to get involved in politics rather than sit on the sidelines and complain. I began writing, calling, and texting my local representatives regarding a bill I supported and felt that my voice and concerns were being ignored. I started to go to club meetings and got more involved in the Republican party to support their local work and make a difference for conservative values in Wake County. I was asked to run for office because I have the drive, the time and the compassion to work for the people of my district.

Q: Why are you the better candidate?

Becki:

I am the better candidate for my race because I am running to truly represent my district. I want to be a representative who will listen to my constituents and bring their issues and concerns to Raleigh. I am not running for my own special interests or pet issue, but to be a voice for the people of District 36.

Q: What two policy initiatives will you address first once in office?

Becki:

I will put my district first, and work to put my constituents' tax dollars to use on much-needed infrastructure expansion, affordable housing options, and small business opportunities.

### Q: How can people contact you or learn more about your campaign?

Becki:

(919) 335-3895
